Research in Motion ("RIM") and Eatoni Ergonomics, Inc. ("Eatoni") have agreed to work jointly on the next generation of predictive text technology in ambiguous keyboards. As part of their new relationship, Eatoni has granted RIM a license in its United States Patent No. 6,885,317 (the "'317 Patent"), titled "Touch-typable Devices Based on Ambiguous Codes and Methods to Design Such Devices", and RIM has made an equity investment in Eatoni. A new cordless phone that sends SMS messages in Irish-Gaelic is hitting the market just in time for Christmas.

Panasonic's newest generation of SMS-enabled DECT phone, Panasonic model KX-TCD755, allows for sending and receiving text messages from other cordless phones, as well as mobile phones, email and FAX. Using LetterWise, a new predictive-text entry system from Eatoni Ergonomics, the phone is the first to allow people to send and receive SMS in Irish-Gaelic, as well as 23 other languages -- Basque, Catalan, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, Galician, German, Greek, Hungarian, Italian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Scottish-Gaelic, Slovak, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish and Welsh.

"This Christmas, for the first time ever, a child in Ireland will be sending Santa an SMS thank-you in Irish-Gaelic," said Howard Gutowitz, whose company developed LetterWise.
