Galician |
Galician is a Romance language spoken by about 3 to 4 million people in Galicia (north-west corner of Spain) and in Portugal. The Galician language emerged as a standardised literary language during the 19th century. Today more than 1,000 books are published in Galician every year and the language is widely used in the media. There is also a daily Galician language newspaper, named "O Correo Galego". Galician language and literature is taught in schools and there is a growing sense of pride in the Galician language, literature and culture in general.
