Estonian belongs to the Finno-Ugric group of the Uralic languages. It is the official language of Estonia, spoken by about 1.1 million people in Estonia and tens of thousands in various expatriate communities in Australia, Canada, Finland, United Kingdom, USA, Latvia, Russia. Estonian is closely related to Finnish.
