Spanish-American

Spanish belongs to the Romance languages. It has its origin in the northern area of Spain. Between the 15th and 19th centuries the language was taken to Africa, the Americas and Asia Pacific, which were brought under Spanish colonial rule during that period. Today, Spanish is one of the official languages of Spain, most Latin American countries and Equatorial Guinea. In total, 21 nations use Spanish as their primary language. Spanish is the second most common language in the United States after English. Almost half of all Spanish speakers in the US also speak English well. The Spanish language has been spoken in North America since the 16th century and nowadays modern factors such as migration continue to contribute to an increase of the Spanish-speaking population.
