Siemens Information and Communication Mobile licenses LetterWise text entry software from Eatoni in 19 major European languages
MUNICH/NEW YORK -- Siemens and Eatoni Ergonomics have entered an agreement whereby Siemens has licensed rights to install Eatoni's LetterWise software in devices, Howard Gutowitz, Eatoni CEO announced today.
LetterWise will offer predictive-text support for 19 different major European languages on Siemens' SMS enabled cordless DECT phones, effectively bringing the SMS market into landline-based home telephones, Gutowitz said.
Eatoni Ergonomics' LetterWise is software for predictive text entry on handheld devices. Since it is not dictionary based it easily enters proper names, slang URLs and invented language. The fact that it requires very little memory, about 3K, makes LetterWise extremely attractive to phone manufacturers, Gutowitz said.
"As consumers come to expect access to instant messaging and interactive features from an increasing number of devices it is important that text entry be flexible, fast and easy, yet be small and simple enough to run on virtually any platform," Gutowitz said. "LetterWise allows for the playful use of language when sending SMS messages. It lets the user slip words from various languages into a single message, and makes using invented language and slang easy."
"LetterWise is a clever solution to a difficult problem," said Christoph Caselitz, President of Cordless Products, Siemens Information and Communication Mobile. "We are considering the use of LetterWise in a broad range of our products. Further announcements will be made as details become available."
Siemens has licensed LetterWise in Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Italian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish and Turkish.
"Siemens is market leader of the DECT phone market and has built a reputation for high-quality, innovative products," said Gutowitz, "We are thankful for the support of our mission demonstrated by this agreement."
