Afrikaans |
Afrikaans is classified as an Indo-European language mainly spoken in South Africa and Namibia. It has its origins in the Dutch language, as it is a variant of the Dutch spoken by the 17th century colonists. In the past Afrikaans was referred to as African Dutch. Due to emmigration a substantial number of Afrikaans speakers can be found in many European countries, such as the United Kingdom, Belgium and the Netherlands.
