Pular/Fula/Fulfulde

The Pular language is spoken in West Africa, particularly in Guinea, Gambia, Senegal, Sierra Leone. A small number of speakers exists in Mali. There are several names applied to the language, just as there are to the Fula people (an ethnic group of people spread over many countries in West Africa, Central Africa and as far as East Africa). More specifically, they call their language Pulaar or Pular in the western dialects and Fulfulde in the central and eastern variations of the language. Pular has borrowings from the Arabic language. In addition, Guinea has had an extensive literature in Pular, but little still exists.
